EGR Valve making popping noise when engine is cold.

I've notice that over the last several months, I've been hearing a popping noise coming from under the hood on the passenger side of my 1997 Montaineer ( same as 5.0 V8 Explorer). It sounds like an exhaust leak, but it goes away as soon as the motor warms up. I think I've narrowed to down the the EGR canister valve that is bolted to the back side of the intake manifod on the pass. side. Has anyone else with the 5.0 V8's had this problem? What do I do? Thanks

Mine made more of a miss sound. Like a leak. After replacing the injectors my EGR tube has some holes in it. I'm trying to find the part # for it to no avail. Let me know what you find out.
