My Explorer has this thing where it tends to bog down. 4.0Ltr S.O.H.C, 4WD

Say you are off road and you need a bit more power so you will push the throttle down half way or so and the reves will go to 3000 and feel like they are going to keep climbing but then it bog’s and they drop back to about 2700 then sit for like 2 seconds before revving up to 3500-3800, It will also do it if you just plant the foot the engine will hesitate before starting to rev up.

It is worse if you are moving than if you are going from a standing start. If you plant it from a standing start it will rev up hesitate for a 1/2 second then the RPM will keep climbing, if you just accelerate normally it will not do it. It happens when the accelerator is around half way down or if you push it all the way to the floor.

It is annoying especially when off road when you need the power delivered at the right time and not 2½ seconds after you give it more throttle and if anything you don’t want the rev’s to drop before they start increasing.

It’s like between 2200 and 3000 is a potential power dead zone where the engine is hesitant to go above those reves.

What is going on, Any Thought’s

It got me bogged last night when I floored it to get up a sand hill out on a track and the motor bogged and by the time the engine stated giving me more power it was basically too late and I got bogged, that resulted in a total of 20miunutes of digging for me Arrr…. :(
