I am contemplating putting an engine heater in my wife's '00 5.0 explorer. I have one in my '05 F150 and love it. I would like to see if I can confirm the heater models with someone in the know.
From my research it appears the freeze/frost/core plugs in the 2000 5.0 are 1-1/2" (or 38.1mm) which would bring me to believe that the Kat's 38mm model 10416/11416 (11416 has detachable cord) would work as a internal block heater.
The lower radiator hose dimensions I have found are 1-1/2"x1-3/4"x18-13/16". I have to assume these are the outer dimensions of the hose and the Kat's 1-1/4" model # 14500 would be the one to go with. (The 1-1/2" model is Kat's model 14600).
Can anyone who has one of these heaters installed confirm these findings?
I have searched the forums extensively and found several posts regarding the engine heaters but no specific mention of a model number or the size of the model used in those cases. I figured I would post so that anyone else would be able to find on using the part number.
Thanks,
Matt Curtis
