a couple of years back, my 94 xlt was overheating a lot, so a mechanic took out the thermometer and now all the coolant runs through the engine at all times. now in the winter after sitting a few hours, the engine lags when i accelerate. once the engine warms up, there is no lag. is that bc there is no thermometer? how difficult is it to get the coolant system up and working again? hopefully thats not TOO bad for my engine.

i hear removing the Thermostat. i think you mean. leaves the engine in open loop. i know the explorer has an engine coolant temp. sensor that goes to the computer. it might somehow be giving false readings

the other more likely problem is that it might be over cooling, make sure you get a good thermostat replacement. the engine needs to be just right. not cold or hot.

replacing the thermostat isnt too difficult, just did mine a month ago. runs great now. i used to have over heating and the engine would not turn off, sometimes.
