Hey everyone.Got a problem with my 88 bII. About 1 minute after start-up the engine starts loading-up with fuel and pours black smoke. This lasts for about 5-10 seconds and then clears up and runs fine.I seem to notice it return a little if I sit at a stop light for an extended period of time. Also while running down the road at highway speeds it will periodically cut out and this is like you turn the ignition switch off.It only lasts a split second but has gotten to be rather frequent and annoying.Every thing on the powertrain is stock with no mods. The o-2 sensor is new about a month ago.The check engine light hasn't came on yet but i expect it soon.Buy the way it will stall at idle every now and then.Sorry for the long post but I need the help.it would help just to know how to pull the codes on her. Thanks in advance!

The fuel pressure regulator doesn't have the tell-tale fuel in the vacuum line, checked it today.Don't know bout the fuel filter, tell you the truth don't really know where it is on this 88,I do on my 89 and it's not in the same place.I'll replace the temp sensor tomorrow. How do you check the the I.A.C?

Take the 2 screws out of the IAC, and clean it very well. This chart is in # 25 in my list of useful threads:

Check the resistance of the sensor before you replace it.

Ok I'm finally able to update this. Work has been crazy and haven't had much time. Well the bronc is back up and running like it should be. I had multiple problems as it turns out. The temp sensor was bad,the tps was bad,as well as the map sensor. Now all thats left is a new set of plug wires and she will be good as new for a while again. I'm really beginning to see what sitting for 4 years will do to a vehicle. Everything gets corroded and goes bad after a little use again. Oh well for $250 I couldn't pass up this great little truck. Thanks for all the help and info!
