This may sound strange, but my '91 explorer seems to start missing at 25 mph. It doesn't seem to depend on rpm, just 25 mph and up. It shakes hard enough to rattle the interior. I changed plugs, but they looked fine and didn't run any different afterwards. I have tried leaving it in all different gears, but no matter what, it shakes above 25 mph. Could it be u-joints? Plug wires? I miss my smooth running explorer.

Check the firing order. When you changed the plugs did you put the right wires on the right plugs. I messed up on that one and you can tell right away something wasn't right. Thats where I'd start.

I also see this is your first post. Well I wish to welcome you and look foward to seeing more posts from ya.

Good Luck
:)

It could be that your mass air flow sensor needs cleaning. It is an easy do it yourself job. On the main page under Explorer Tips is some instructions on how to do this. It could be your wires but probably unlikley. Clean the MAF sensor before you start to spend money on your problem.

Welcome to the board, there is a wealth of info here.

Since you said it doesnt matter what throttle position ur at and it only happens at 25mph I would think that it would be something with the drive line(like u said u-joints). Does it happen at exactly at 25mph and steadily get better as you accelerate? Kind of like an unbalanced tire? I had the same experience at 50 mph when I had mud inside the rim. Just a thought. Good luck and i know how u feel missing a smooth ride. I've spent the last 1 year trying to fix my rough idle.
