I have a 4.6L v8 2007 explorer..recently the engine became quite loud when driving.. it;s like WOOOOOOO when it's around and above 50mph, and my gayge says i need oil change..I had oil change by ford dealer not even 2 months ago and only about 2000 miles with the engine oil... anyone know what's going on? If I try to change oil myself, how much engine oil do i put in there? where's the oil screw locate at? thanks

is the oil low?

check the dipstick....

should take about 6 1/2 quarts....

i checked it, i can see the oil and it's quite clean..i guess i will change it myself this time, i hate dealers, i just have to go since i have warranty.. i will look around and try to find the screw for oil hange, do u know where it is located?

Likely the dealer did not reset the oil life in the driver's info center and that's why the message is coming up. You can reset that yourself.

The noise sounds like something else...perhaps there is a throtle bypass valve that is sticking? I forget the name of the part, but on gen2 Explorers they would make a loud noise almost like a horn when they needed to be serviced or replaced.

Hi explorer1007,

My name is Cory from Ford Customer Service. I would like to see if I can address the concerns you mentioned with your 2007 Explorer. Have you had it looked at by a Ford dealership yet to be diagnosed? If you send me your VIN and approximate mileage in a private message, I can document the concern and see if there is anything I can do to help.

how do i reset it? thanks

Press the SETUP button several times and watch the info center until it gets to the HOLD RESET IF NEW OIL display, then hold the RESET button to set the oil life to 100%.

thanks everyone, i will reset it and see if it comes back..i have to go to the dealer next month for oil change anyway. for the noise i hope it's not too serious but i got ford extended warranty so whatever lol..i will have them look at when im there.

Another question for the fantastic people on this site. When the oil reset button is returned to 100% is it counting down to how many miles before a change. I have been changing my oil on both my vehicles at 3K miles. Can iI hold out for 4K between changes? My Mounti is about at 3K now and about ready. Thanks

The 100% will count down to 0 for the next 7500 miles, or 6 months, which is Ford's suggested service interval. You can adjust that (p.126 in the manual):

"Note: To change oil life 100% miles value from 7,500 miles (12,070 km)
or 6 months to another value, proceed to step 3.
3. Once “OIL LIFE SET TO x..%” is displayed, release and press the
RESET control switch to change the Oil Life Start Value. Each release
and press will reduce the value by 10 percent.
Note: Oil Life Start Value of 100% equals 7,500 miles (12,070 km) or 6
months. For example, setting Oil Life Start Value to 60% sets the Oil Life
Start Value to 3,000 miles (4,828 km) and 120 days."

Thanks again, I knew I could count on someone to return with the answer.

To everyone have a Fantastic and Safe Holiday Season.
