I would say anything is possible but I would not care to try that. Like walking in a minefield.

Thanks, I had looked at that thread, and couldn't specificaly make out if the lines had been disconnected or not. It would be a lot less hasstle if the a/c lines can stay connected, and not fool with evacuation and recharge.

Unbolt the compressor from engine adapter and tie it off to the side. The pressure lines are bolted to brackets under the engine. Just make sure everything it free. I just had mine out in May of this year. You can do the samething with the power steering pump & lines.

Glad to know that. I was able to pull the engine and tranny out of my MINI Cooper without opening the A/C system, and I may need to pull the engine out of my Explorer. I have a knock that shows up after the engine is warm, and I am trying to work through the diagnosis to make sure it is or is not a rod knock. The symptoms are I get a clatter when sarting up cold, quiets down and sounds normal until the engine warms up then I get a knock that stays with engine rpm. My next check will be to warm it up, pull the serpentine belt and listen to see if it is still there or not. I had new timing chains put in last year and the overhaul warranty is out. Just my luck.
