So, I'm in need of some direction from the most informed here on this forum. As the title states, the engine is running rough and can't seem to smooth out. Let's get some particulars out of the way:
2010 Mercury Mountaineer
4.0L V6
4x2
107k on the odometer.
Before we get started, I'll state that I have already replaced the following: Spark Plugs, Spark Plug Wires, Ignition Coil, Water Pump, Serpentine Belt, Wheel Hubs, Brake Discs and pads in February 2020. Fuel Pressure Sensor in November 2019 and Battery in August 2019. Up until this point, she was running nice and smooth with no issues to speak of.
Now for the bad. This past Saturday when the fam and I were out, we stopped for ice cream and while idling in the parking lot, she stumbled for just a second and it felt like a misfire but regained her composure and we thought nothing of it. On the way home and as we decelerated to a stop sign, the RPM's dropped but regained themselves to their normal indication. This happened a couple more times on the ride home but never stalled. Yesterday, I took her out for a ride and tried to give her an Italian Tune-Up. Everything went well and there were no indications of misfires, stalling or RPM drops. She idled very well in the driveway and there were no issues. My wife took her and the kids to drop them off at school this morning and there were no issues. Again, I took her out to see if I could replicate the issue I experienced over the weekend but nothing happened. Now, the wife went to go back and pick up the kids and she experienced a dramatic decline in the performance. She stalled in the pickup line and had to keep her foot on the gas to keep the engine alive. She made it back and I took a look under the hood. I found that the intake clamp from the hose to the throttle body to be looser than expected so I tightened it and took it for a ride. But before I left, I gave a quick spray of carb and choke cleaner to the MAF (hoping to solve the issue). Back on the road, everything went well and I took a 20 minute ride with no issues. Around the corner from my house, she started to sputter and choke and I made it into the driveway only to have the engine shudder, stumble almost die but then caught back up only to repeat the process. This whole time, no DTC or CEL came across the dashboard. I pulled codes and this is what I found:
Pending:
P0192 - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Low
P0642 - Sensor Reference Voltage "A" Circuit Low
P2196 - O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Rich
P2198 - O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Rich
My question is this, could I have a fuel pump going out? Is my "new" fuel pressure sensor faulty? Do I have bad O2 sensors? I'm looking for some direction on how to fix this situation. Thanks for letting me rant and congrats on reading this far.
