Engine Sounds Like Dropping Cylinders

I Have A 92 Exp Sport And The Check Engine Light Has Always Been On Since I Have Had It About 140k It Now Has 180k And After Riding About 40-50 Miles Engine Will Start To Loose Power Spudder And Sound Like It Is Dropping Cylinders Even When Check Engine Light Is Off
I Have Pulled Off The Road And Checked Spark And Is Ok Also Has A Foul Smell Coming Out Of The Exhaust Like Rotting Cat But It Has Been Checked And It Is Ok Also Gas Mileage Is Way Worse
I Have Replaced Plugs Wires And Muffler
Please Help

What's a "cly" and what does it sound like when it drops? Isn't It A Pain To Type Caps At The Beginning Of Each Word? Don't mean to be sarcastic. I don't know what problem it could be w/ out knowing why the check engine lite comes on. Loss of power after it warms up sounds like some thing electronic like the mass air sensor, I'd check that first. Bad smell does sound like the cat. Good luck

Rotten egg smell is usually from the catalytic converter. Either it is bad, or your dumping raw fuel into it, which will make it bad.

You do need to pull the codes first.. There are many threads (including one in the under the hood/eec IV section) about getting the codes and what they normally mean.

My SWAG would be bad FPR or sticking injector causing you to dump too much fuel, that in turn makes it run really bad and will cause a smell and will kill your CAT..

1st thing to do would be to pull codes from the computer. If you want to do it yourself, review my "notes on pulling EEC-IV codes" in the EEC-IV forum. BrooklynBayhas posted a list of EEC-IV codes posted in that forum that will give you a brief definition of what each code means.

Bad smell from the cat can also be an indication that the engine is running rich. Running rich is one common cause of cats clogging and going bad. Even if the cats are good now, if the engine is running rich, they will clog up eventually. In addition to pulling codes, I would also check for fuel in the vacuum line to the FPR and check the fuel pressure. Glacier991 has posted a write-up for checking fuel pressure in the Under the Hood forum.

Do what everone above has said. Pull the codes and report back here. The Check Engine Light does not come on for decoration. It is reporting a trouble code. You need to find out what your codes are. Otherwise it's a crap shoot trying to figure out what is going on.

In the meantime a search on sulfur and sulfer will yield the rich possibilities available with an odiferous vehicle. The short story is that generally, the cats don't spontaneously crap out , something upstream is defective and produces the symptoms your experiencing. Pullin the codes goes a long way in determining the problem.
