ok I have been having this problem for quite sometime. If you slowly ease on the gas, my engine gets up to speed fine. If you just flat out hit it hard, then it boggs out and accelerates VERY VERY VERY SLOW. you can tell sometimes when it trys kick in and stuff. i replaced the fuel filter, MAF, air filters been changed, spark plugs, wires, etc. they have all helped a little but not done it. what could it be!?!? i have used throttle body cleaner and that helps sometimes a little. but it comes back real fast. i'd really like to have this fixed! thanks

I had bogging too... just the opposite though

I changed me TPS and it did the trick... just dont forget to reset the battery... it was a cheap fix too!

have ya tried injector cleaner, and a few tanks of GOOD gas?
Pete

I changed the tps.. it didnt help. but thanks
I have tried injector cleaner... i may take it to ford for one of those big clean jobs travisn1 said it helped his a lot.
hey brian -- does 4 cylinder mean anything to you? dont start man i really want to fix this

Dude, don't you ever go away.

There is something that is blocking air or restricting the engine. Possibly a fuel filter or dirty injectors.

hey i think im gonna get my injectors professionally cleaned...
yeah brian doesnt go away.. he has to much free time

I'm deleting wrangler's posts... they are not on topic and not contributing any intelligence to this board!

ok well im going to try to get that cleaned... and i'll tell yall if it helps.

I had similar problem turned out to be a clogged catalytic convertor.:D

check your gas lines, not real common, but i've had it happen on a different vehicle, if you have any rubber line anywhere try replacing it, as eventually gas will break down the rubber inside the hose and it will colapes(suck itself closed) under heavy draw pressure.

i remember someone said check the cat... how can i check them though?

and how do i check the fuel lines.. thanks

I had a similar problem with my '94. Turned out I had a crack in a vacuum hose. The hose was on the left side of the engine (facing front from driver's seat), up at the top. It was connected to what I think is the EGR valve (but I'm not sure, there are two hoses attached to it, and an electrical connector). The small hose had the crack -- I just cut the hose shorter and re-connected it and the problem was gone.

Cats

I had the same problem...bogging..loss of MPG..etc.
It started out like yours but within 3 days the CEL came on after 20 mins and power and fuel turned into a joke. I couldn't get to 70 MPH. After reading the codes and replacing all + more of the parts you did, it turned out to be clogged cats. It was so bad by this time that I could feel sputtering from the tailpipe. I don't know of any technical way to check them.

BTW---If you replace them...consider doing the whole exhaust if you haven't yet.

:chug:

cat check!

Try Midas or a well known muffler company or something. They can usually check your exhaust for free or relatively cheap. Its worth a shot! Good luck

thanks... I'll get it checked out this week sometime. Usually, when I spray throttle body cleaner in the intake, it helps for a little while, like a day or 2 but then the bogging comes back.

,,,,,,,

sounds more to me like a vacum problem,,
possibly loose lower intake bolts cauzing the known leak in the intake.
Retorqe bolts.

where are the lower intake bolts and how can i retorque them.

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,

the "lower intake bolts" are located on the "lower intake"............. LOL
ok,,
your engine has an upp and a lower intake,, the lower being the one closer to the block, hence "lower" intake,,
it's not realy hard but time consumming,, you have to remove the upper intake and alot of other things to get to the bolts with are located beside the fuel rail, there are 8 bolts.
retorqe them in three steps to 18Foot LBS.

All the ideas above are good, but a couple of thoughts

What size tire and what gear ratio do you run? Large tires with low (numerical) gears could cause a bog, or loss of response.

Also, may be the computer. if you drive around with light throttle all the time and then punch it, the computer has probably retarded the timing, changed the fuel curve a bit- if you drive like you stole it for a while it will start to pick up as the computer relearns your driving habits, and adds a more aggressive advance and fuel curve for the more aggressive driving.

well i dont have it now, its in the shop for brakes and yeah my rear drums werent even working for a while. anyways, its not the bigger tires... it did it before the bigger tires were on. and it snot me having alight foot trust me... if you ease it... then it accels fine.
