Here is a craigslist find for $150. Needs a new rear countershaft and bearing. It is about the same overall size as a 302. 7K rpm redline, 315 hp and 325 tq. Looks like it would fit in the van after I replace the broken parts.

the problem with modern engine swaps is fuel injection won't work without the right computer and fuel supply.and thats assuming the ignition/timing isn't computer controlled too.of course you maybe could adapt all the volvo parts.

Self learning efi systems are cheap now. Edis for the ignition. The hard part is the transmission.
 






How do you plan on connecting it to your stock transmission? I don't think that you could use a V8 with an A4LD transmission. Look at something a little tougher like a 4R70W or a Volvo transmission which is meant to work with this engine.
 






I will be using a V8 transmission. I got the heads off and looks like the bottom end is OK, heads are scrap. Timing chain jumped a tooth and wiped out all 16 exhaust valves. I will probably find several of these engines and build one from the parts. This engine is based on the duratec engine. Same stroke, bore spacing, etc.

Top on the list is the Mopar 545rfe with a np242hd transfer case. It will take awhile Craigslist hunting to round up the parts I need.
