everytime i go uphill my explorer has no power whatsoever

i have a 1992 ford explorer XLT with 154000 miles and it has no take off speed and everytime i go uphill i lose an incredible amount of power. I replaced all the plugs put a new wire set on and a new ignition coil on and it made no difference. Does anybody know what I can do to increase the speed and performance.

p.s. when i took out the spark plug for the #5 cylinder it was really corroded and I have to replace that plug aout once a week because oil is getting in there and it forms a crust over the electrode

sounds like the #5 cylinder is in sad shape, i bet the rest arent much better. I believe that would be oil gettin past the rings causing that. I'm pretty sure that would also screw up the compression pretty bad. I'm thinkin its time for a rebuild/new motor.

I'm not sure on all this, but its a bump for ya at any rate.

That #5 cylinder is a common place to look when there is a problem with the lower intake manifold gasket leaking. Could that "corroded" look be antifreeze? That's also a common symptom of a leaking lower intake manifold gasket. Usually this is discussed with an engine that pings under load at highway speeds or such, so do a search for that to see more information
A leaking lower intake manifold gasket is quite common on the 4.0 L OHV. Often it can be fixed by simply tightening the eight bolts that hold the manifold on. Try that and see if it helps.
