Hi, 2 weeks back I had the rear wheel (drivers side) rammed from the wheel side (the wheel took the biggest impact) while parked at night at the curb (the curb is about 6 inches high) by a car going approximately 40 miles an hour I would guess looking at the impact. The insurance is covering it at a collision repair shop. Estimate $6,000 with 2 weeks to fix.

But my heart broke when I saw the rear (drivers side) wheel tilted at an angle and a slight tilt in the rear passenger wheel side as well. So my concern is (and this may be a difficult question) is it fairly normal to straighten out the wheels during alignment with laser etc by replacing the parts closest to the wheel or does it involve axils, struts, rear transmission.. Is this something ordinarily doable?

I did drive the vehicle for about 15 miles and the transmission & engine are okay.

The Collision garage here seem to have it under control though the estimate is up to $8,000.

Any thoughts on “is this standard repair job”? Thank you

Got any picture's mate? $8,000 would be getting close to write-off status wouldn't it? With only 45k on the clock you must be spewing.

Well I was so busy taking the ex to the Insurence guys and then the collision repair that I din't get an pictures.
They are going to change the metal wheel on the left and straighten the rim and repair / replace the suspension. The strut/spring is okay because of its flexibility. Then wheel rim on the right is being replaced.
The dent cannot be hammered out to perfection so they are going to cut a big piece uptill half the window and then replace/weld a new piece and paint it.
The price would be 14K approximate for 2005 in Vancouver, but it is agood piece-engine and transmission and with a collision like this the frame is intact, so I am going to live with it for atleat 10 years if not more. The Insurence gives 2 years warranty on the repair and the collision guys give lifetime on paint -peeling/fading.

After all work is done they do alignment again, which if alignment is okay, proves all is well.

It's great that you get a warranty, hope it all work's out and you're not left without your rig for too long!!

Yes, warranty is peace of mind and if all is well for a year, the EX should be fine. This scenario is almost like taking a chance on getting a used EX (which this was). I should be seeing the ex in the next few days. Thanks.
