I have yet again, another question. First off, will someone tell me the difference between the OHV and the SOHC? I dont know much about engines and such, i just know how to drive them. I have a 95 4dr 4x4 XLT (will that help to tell if I have the OHV or SOHC?) Anyway, i want to get aftermarket exhaust, im looking at Flowmaster 40 or 50 series, and i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on which to get or if there are any sound bites that anyone has of the 40 or 50 on the 4.0. I have searched, but i didnt come up with much other than people saying both sounded good and loud. I dont necessarily want really loud exhaust, i just want a nice meaty V8 sound. Any suggestions?

look under your hood if you have an SOHC there will be a little plastic lid right in plain view that will say 4.0 SOHC on it. If not OHV.

What are the general differences between the two. Power difference?

You have OHV. SOHC didn't come out till 97 or so.

OHV = 160HP
SOHC = 210HP

Thanks, now does anyone have exhaust recomendations? (see my original post in this thread)

I would go with the 40 series. that is if you want it to be loud. The 50 series will be a little bit quieter. I have a 40 with 2.25" pipe and stock cats. Although on mine the 40 is isnt really that loud but it is noticable when you are driving over the stock muffler. I will see if i can record the sound of my exhaust tomorrow and hopefully post it.

yea if you could record that for me, i would appreciate it. do you have the v6?

He has a first gen which means he has to have a ohv v6 unless he did a v8 swap. I prefer the 50 series and get rid of the resinator after it

and the 50 series w/ no resonator doesnt sound buzzy at all?

I have the clip its video and audio from a digital camera. but i dont have a website so i will have to email it to you. Yes i still have the stock v6 and the original cats. This is a clip with the 40 series muffler and no resonator. just email me at snoborder_40l@yahoo.com and i will email you the clip.

I had the 40 on mine, DON'T DO IT! Got with the 50 series. Or even the 70. The 40 isn't even a nice sound. I have a few clips of mine with the 40 on it. But I forget the address to upload on here :mad:

hey i have gibson its pretty nice i like the sound its a deeper rumble but not overwhelming loud

quick question about exhausts. I have a '98 V6 SOHC. which exhaust would you recommend for this? Something with a decent low grumble, not overwhelming and somthing that wouldn't get annoying driving long distances.

heyitsben5, do you have the V6, and if so where did you get your gibson from, and do you have any sound clips of it. All that ive heard from flowmaster sound clips are sorta buzzy (ricer-like).

i got the same thing, I'm leaning towards Gibson side swept. I've heard people say the 50 series FM is good for the year engine 2

I am pleased with my custom cat back ( 2 1/2" pipe ) with a Flowmaster 70.

Does anyone have the Gibson swept side cat back on a V6?, if so how do you like it? (any sound clips?)

I've learned alot on this site and wanted to say thanks.

I just ordered the Gibson .. I should have it next week. I found a sound clip (not the best) on the Gibson website .. here's a link :

I also ordered the X Calibrator/programs from Doug at Bama Chips and a TrueFlow air filter.
