Getting into some more serious mods now :p: ... deleted the factory resonator with straight s/s pipes running from the cats to the factory mufflers. Added 4" chrome tips. Definitely added a bit more growl, no drone and my seat of the pants says it has a bit more of a kick! I'm satisfied. Before and after pics showing exhaust routing here;

By the way, I'm wondering if I should have added an H or X pipe. Can anyone tell me if there is any benefit to adding (or not) one of these to a turbo engine?

looks nice! any idea of gains?

I just ordered a 14 Sport; can't wait to get it; already searching for mods!

That's basically what we did to the Audi turbo we traded...
can you get some video with sound clips ?

The x or h pipe won't do anything useful here.

To the OP, was the resonator like a restrictive muffler or straigh see through?

Out of curiosity, what is the cost associated with this type of modification to the exhaust? Are most muffler shops capable of this work, or do you have to search for specialty places?

Thanks!

as an fyi on our audi to do this work....

he cut the TWO silencers (audi word for mufflers :) ) off, put 2 magnflows in their place, and nice 4" chrome tips for less than $175...

of course I've been going to him for years with my cars and he gives me a fair deal...
if you're in my neck of the woods, he's easy to find - Take a ride down to Mansfield and I'll introduce you :)

I saw that Magnaflow makes a cat-back system for the EX Sport; $800 though. Then most likely a new ECU tune to ensure total advantage of the new system; tough pill.

I got my Magnaflow for around $600 CAD shipped to my door.

It was from a company called Hottexhaust.com I wrote a review on another thread on here about my experience with them. All positive.

The place I went was Hot Rod Scotts in Toronto, they are a custom exhaust place that I had worked with before. For the changes (resonator delete, straight replacement S/S pipes, new polished S/S tips) all welded in place with tax came to around $400.

Seat of the pants says there is a bit of a bump!

You should get a video or two up.

The mufflers are black, yet the pipes aren't, and stick out like a sore thumb.
First thing I did was buy a rattle can of VHT black and paint those eye sores!

Added H Pipe

Did a little research, and while I am no expert it seems that by adding an H pipe on the exhaust system I could lower the tone and eliminate some of the raspy noise from the exhaust that I was getting at high rpm with the deletion of the resonator. So here is a pic with the new H pipe installed ... made a big difference in the tone, it's deeper, more balanced and no high rpm raspy sound and it still feels like a solid bump in power over stock. Hot Rod Scotts installed the H pipe for $60. I'll try post some video in the near future.

The H pipe may have improved the sound, but don't expect to add any power here. It's just another area of turbulence and thus a restriction slowing down velocity.

But if you are happy with the power and feel it improved the sound then keep it the way you have it. Unfortunately, v6's are always raspy, it's just the way they are.

I just wish the turbos weren't so quiet on the ecoboost. I wouldn't mind moving to larger turbos down the road but have a feeling it would just be pointless as too much would have to be upgraded and it sounds as though the transmission isn't going to do well with the added power.

Would there be any benefit for adding the H pipe alone and leaving the stock mufflers in place. $60 bucks seems like a cheep way to take the first step in freeing up some back pressure.

So does adding the H pipe alone Add HP? Increase exhaust sound?
