What would the cons be to a bolt on exhaust tip? I know a welded one would be way better, but would the bolt on one leak?

And if somebody wants it...

the bolts come off. What's the dilemma? You trying to save cash on this one? I had a bolt on once... it's on the freeway somewhere. Fell off. The current one is welded.

Just wondering about bolt ons, that's all.

If you're undecided, make it the last thing you do. I had mine welded this time because it's partially exposed by where a bolt on would go, but the weld was so it wouldn't end up somewhere else other than on the vehicle. And you got a Flowmaster coming?? Get it welded... or like Aldive said, it's likely to rattle.

I'm going to be putting on that muffler, what I'm undecided on is the piping side after it, keep it stock (what is stock, 2.25 or 2.50?) or make it the next size bigger? And if I do make it the next size bigger, is there any gain from it at all? Or is it bad? Stock exhaust manifolds here on the 5.0.. I do want a nice nifty lookin chrome tip though.. =)

Do they add to the exhaust sound?

Here is the one I welded on my truck.

That's what I'm looking for.. that looks very nice. Are there any laws saying weather you have a tailpipe to the side or behind with an SUV? Does it matter?

God, I can't get over how nice and clean your Explorer always is..

Compared to that, I have to take my pic down... I'll get a better angle later.

Regardless of which type you choose, opt for stainless steel.

i was right where u are about 2 weeks ago. got the 50 suv dual in single out muffler and went with the single 3" out all the way. left the cats and stock headers and of course pulled out the resonator. no i didnt see ANY lag in low end torque with the 3" pipe, in fact, probably a slite increase. also as far as the tip goes, definetly get stainless...last forever and if u polish it it'll look just as good as chrome. WELD ur tip on. if you cant weld the labor cost for it will be cheap it takes 20 mins tops and a bolt on will eventually fall off if not tightened, possibly rattle, and could be easily stolen. before you ask i cant do pix/sound/ or video...lol. but my tip is practically identical to al's.

I got 2 1/2 inch tips and I got the dual 40 series flowmasters but my gf is thinking of buying me the 3 or 3 1/2 inch tips will it make my explorer sound a lot different with the 3 or 3 1/2 inch tips or will it sound the same like my 2 1/2 inch tips

al do u got single flowmaster or dual and how big are ur tips on ur explorer

A larger tip might lower the tone of the exhaust.

Took me a fer minutes to translate that message :)

I run a single Flowmaster 70 with 2 !/2 in pipe from the cats back. The exhaust tip is 3 !/2 inches.

when i bought my 01 sport the previous owner had the big block II 70 series flowmasters. And now I got the 40 series flowmasters on my 01 sport. Big difference in sound. But that looks nice with the 3 1/2 inch tip.

Mine are dual 2 1/2 inch my gf wants to get me 3 or 3 1/2 inch tips but i think she might just get me the 3 inch.
