I just got my 94 XLT a few months ago, and i plan on putting some custom exhaust on it. along with some other mods.

I though about getting a dual setup before, but i decided to go with a single exit setup to keep cost down, Im in College so every dollar counts hahah.

I was thinking about going with a custom catback single system with 2.25 inch pipe and either a 40 or 50 series Flowmaster muffler leading out to a 3 inch chrome tip in a similar position to stock.... I was just wondering if 2.25 is a good pipe diameter or should i use 2.5?, or would 2.5 lose too much backpressure?

Also, anyone who has a flowmaster 40, or 50 series with the OHV 4.0 V-6 could you let me know how they sound?

I want something that will almost imitate a V-8 sound or in other words something thats good and deep and thats got a nice rumble to it....

Thnx..:)

sorry, can't help - i just wanted to subscribe to this thread, so that i get the answer. very good question though...

I would recommend a 40 for the OHV. My friend has one and it sounds really good... and IMO, a single out 2.5 sounds better for that setup.

X24, thats interesting...I'm not looking for anything loud, just a real nice sound. I have a Cherry Bomb and its too loud and droney, sounds good at about 1200rpms but that's about it lol.

I've seen many preferences for Magnaflow (I called a local shop that didnt install Magnaflow but had Accelerator and apparantly they're basically the same setup/sound) and Gibson seems to be getting popular. Dynomax? Midas setup? Borla? There's a lot to choose from...around town I've heard a couple of setups, one of them was on a 2nd Gen and I wasnt too impressed, but maybe it was an SOHC...I have the OHV and I'm looking for something that will be the right thing...

Dead Link Removed Mine is a flowmaster 50 with duals on a SOHC. My friends OHV sounds similar at idle, but not quite as deep in the higher RPMs.

It's not bad at all. Personally, I dont even notice it. I love how it sounds on the highway when you give it a little more gas to pick up a few mph, but when you're just crusing its not loud at all and with your radio at normal volume you cant even hear it. Thats one thing I really like about mine. It's obnoxious when I get on it but can be quite if I want it to be.

Al, I have a video of mine passing my friend that shows it crusing and then when I get on it if you want to hear the difference. I can email it to you if you want.

hmmmm......i might go with a 50, i really like the sound, sounds mean.
You think it would sound pretty much the same withough duals?? Or do you have a True Dual setup?

If you could also email me that vid of your truck.....at....mbfish@mail.plymouth.edu that would be awesome:D

I just bought a Flow SUV 50 series with dual 2.25" in and a single 3" out. I plan on just dumping it shortly after the muffler under the car so the sound resonates off the ground.

Here is my question - on Flowmasters' web-site they "suggest" using a H-Pipe with this muffler. I have a SOHC so I could have a H-Pipe made right? What would that do for me?

Thanks!

Also X24....

Wich 50 series do you have, the Delta Flow or SUV? and what size pipes are you runnin with your dual setup.?

Anybody see "Two Guys Garage" today? They were putting an exhaust system on an F150, and used a "Turbine" muffler. It was a single exhaust, with 2 1/2" inlet and 3" out. The turbine muffler was supposed to create a low pressure area inside the housing, and suction the exhaust through it, giving very low backpressure.

It was round and compact, and only about 20" long, sort of like the old "Cherry Bombs", just a little bigger. It sounded really good when they revved it.......

I have the 50 SUV and I called flowmaster about it and they told me that it goes in as dual 2.25's, comes together as a 3" inside the muffler, goes thru the chambers, goes back to a 3" pipe and then splits back to 2.25. So that would pretty much be the X-pipe right there. All my pipes are 2.25.

Thanks Man......
I think i might go for a dual setup now, but with tips comin out behind the rear wheels, swept back at a 45 degree angle and angled down a little..

And btw your truck is really sweet, Nice job with it.:D

Thanks! Glad I could help.

X24, you have a V6?!?!? Thanks for the video, your setup sounds awesome!! Might be a little loud for what I'm looking for, but I still dont know...since you said you dont really notice it inside the cab. I'm not too familiar with Gibson, but I heard they've got a pretty good sound and are quieter, just depends if there's a dealer around. But b/c of that video, I'm definitely considering a Flowmaster.
