Hey has anyone bought a custom billet grille from explorer express for a 95-00? How do you like it? Was it easy to install? And what does this hood release lever extender do? does it help? pics would be nice!
Thanks.

I have one. It was very easy to install, it's as simple as removing the grille shell and tightening down the clamping bolts. I love the look of it. It comes with a hood latch extender, but I don't use it because I couldn't figure out how, plus it's easier to just keep a screwdriver in the glovebox and use it.

SanDiegoExplr, I had one on my '99. It is very easy to install. That grill is made by E&G Classics.

You can get a better deal by buying directly from them and cutting out the 'middleman'.

No you can't, I called them about that and they said they no longer sell to individuals.

hey code....did u figure out the extender thing?

Actually, I never used it. The latching mechanisms on the 99's and later are different than that on the earlier model Explorers. But from what I can remember...it was just a rod with two pieces of flat stock welded to it, one on each end. One piece was then connect to the existing hood latch lever by two small bolts. The other piece was just used to acuate the latch.

Ebay....+-$50...cake to install (10 min), one screw drivier...looks amazingly sporty (no scanner to post pics), but it actually has more "billets" then ne other grille on the market...

Thanks....

The grille from ebay is cake to install, by this i mean rip off cheasy lookin ford emblem...place the grille in place zip tie it to the stock grille...center it, and make em tight...hasn't moved on me in months and noone has ever tampered w/ it b/c it looks like it is bolted on...post ur real email address and ill email u a pic of my truck w/ the grille on it, the pic is weak, b/c the billets are not dipictable b/c of the photo quality, i would recommend this part and in my opinion looks the best outa ne others i've seen...

the pics would be nice
my email is bradyb@san.rr.com
also, where and how did u zip tie it to the grille?
how much did the one off ebay cost?

The grille i bought on ebay was $45 (i think???--probably a "buy it now" price). I ripped off the cheesy emblem on the stock grille...then the grille is the same shape as the stock and it fits right over the stock...The stock grille has a grid look to it...on the uprights of the grill is where i used the zip ties to zip it to....post your email address for a pic to see

Why not post the picture here for all to see?

Too many bars if you ask me. I've seen the eBay one in person, I don't like it as well as mine. ;)

Here's the pic of my truck...hope this works!?

I had the Explorers Express/E&G Classic grill also but I took it off and installed the one from Ebay. Why? Because E&G does not make a matching bottom grill. As for comparing the two styles...those who have seen my X locally with both grilles prefer the one from Ebay.

As for not being able to order direct from E&G...

I wrote to them and here's their response...

Hello Keith, If you are not in a distributors area you can order direct from E&G. Call 800-394-2774 and ask for Elaine Ayers or Ron Z. in the Sales Department.

Thanks,

Carolyne

I called and talked to both Ron Z. and Elaine. When I asked about purchased a Ford Explorer billet grille, they acted like they didn't even know what that was. Ron Z. directed me to the Chicago office, where I was told by a very *****y lady that I couldn't order direct, and that I had to buy froma distributor. Perhaps Caroline is giving you some false info?

I'm not saying you're lying, I'm just saying that is what they told me when I called.

Who knows....maybe Caroline is giving out false info. Or the ***** in Chicago was having a bad day. All I know is that's the letter that I received in today's mail.
