Hey guys!

I have a 4.6L V8 Explorer and have an issue with something.

The issue is, the temp gauge goes all the way to HOT but in reality the Explorer isn't overheating at all. I open the hood and it's not even hot. I can touch all the engine components without burning my hand at all.

What the hell is going on? Thanks in advanced!

Make sure your coolant level is completely full before getting in too deep. Radiator and overflow, and no air pockets. Temp sensors go wacky if not submerged in the fluid and instead reading air or steam

Coolant levels are at the correct levels. How would I be able to get rid of airpockets?

If the cool level was still full rather than having to have been refilled recently chances are you don't have an air pocket. But if it recently was low enough that required adding at least a half gallon to the radiator, sometimes air gets trapped.
Some members have mentioned sucsess purging air by parking the vehicle on a substantial nose up hill and revving the engine a few times to help bring up any air toward the Radiator. Also turn the heater on and make sure you are getting hot air to show that there is no air in the heater core

I tried if I had any airpockets and it's still overheating. Anyone know what this can be?

Background info.
When did this start?
Anything repair like worked on this prior to this problem?
How long you've had it?
Miles on it.

Opening the rad cap and there is fluid in the Rad??? Right???

How long running before it goes to hot? Minutes, hours ...? Driving or parked idling?

It has 160K miles it doesn't happen unless it's in operating temperature and I slightly accelerate over 4 rpm; only happens when driving. Yes, there is fluid in the radiator and in the coolant reservoir. No repairs done to it, no damage to it at all. The only thing that has been done to it, is an oil change that is done at Valvoline Instant Oil Change.

don't make a lot of sense RPM wise. Whether its a problem with the pump or not. Signatures are almost a must. What engine??
Might need the T-stat changed first to see if thats it. Use a Ford one though and gasket.

It could just be your temperature sensor that is faulty. Might be as simple as that. I'd change out the thermostat as well as the temp sensor and then go from there. If nothing else is wrong I would think it would be a faulty sensor.

Oh yeah, check the wires hooked to that sensor, my buddy used to have an old beater chevy pickup that would always read hot a few minutes after starts up, the sensor wires had melted. I'm not sure how likely this is on these vehicles but it's good for thought.
