2005 Explorer XLT 4X4
I have a 2005 Ford Explorer with the V-8 engine and 4x4. A few weeks ago I was driving it(its my wifes, I have a 92' F-150, 5.3 Windsor engine and 4x4). Anyway, I had the cruise set at about 38 (35mph zone), started up a slight hill, and the engine just shut off. I pulled to the side of the road, checked everything I could think of, ran a self diagnostic, nothing came up or looked wrong. Restarted the it and drove home. I asked my wife if she had been having any problems and she said no. It hadnt happened before, and hasnt since. But Im curious what couldve caused this evidently one time problem?

Weird. Id get the codes pulled and see what they say.

Everything just shut down, accessories at the same time?

I had a case similar where I ended up hitting a pothole or rough patch and my positive battery cable loosened up enough to kill it.

Just an idea. I'd definitely agree if you can pull codes, do it.

yup.I agree with the last guy. I had the same thing and checked my cables and everything looked good(on top). didnt realize how bad the cables were underneath until it broke off the positive terminal after a speed hump.hope this is a quick fix for you

I will definetely check the cables and get the codes pulled. I didnt hit any potholes that I know of, but the fan was running and the stereo, and all the dash warning lights(like when you first turn the key on) were lit up. So, I know I was getting power, but perhaps one or both is loose.

quits

Same problem here, but only when using the cruise under 40mph.
