Guys,
I emailed Terry from ProFinish/ProGlass, who created the Black Diamond Explorer, and asked him questions regarding the shaker hood, roll pan, and painting the bottom, textured trim, and the following is his reply:
"Tim, thanks for the compliment we really enjoy the truck also. The shaker is
available and is 699.00 + shipping, it includes hood, shaker
scoop, seal, brackets and lower airbox. It is functional with the use of a K&N
gen2 aircleaner kit. The rollpan is a one off piece that required some frame
cutting and the loss of spare tire.
The lower cladding paint prep consists of cleaning with a product called
TING available at most paint stores and sanding aggressively with 220 wet or
dry paper. We then use PPG DP 40 as an adhesion promoter followed by a few
coats of PPG K36 primer to fill scratches and the remaining texture. Then
sand and paint. We have been doing Dodge door handles and mirrors like this
for over 7 years with NO paint failures, in fact my Explorer has over 20
thousand miles on this procedure with only a few stone chips. One more thing
my Explorer has ran a 15.30 in the 1/4 mi with just the hood, aircleaner and
a catback exhaust ( you should see the look on a RT Durango owners face when
I beat them at a stoplight).
Thanks for posting my page on the Explorer page and let me know what we can
do for you."
Thanks to Terry for all his info, I hope this info helps you guys. I got some work to do now....
