Hey all!
I am so ridiculously upside down on my explorer, this thing is killing me!!!
Rebuilt tranny, transfercase, rear axle X2, my engine sounds like a horrendous diesel and now my fuel pump/sender unit and fuel tank need replacing. My internal baffle came loose and completely demolished the entire pump/sender assembly. I have never had so many problems with a car, I swear if this was my first ford it would definitely be my last!!!!!!
Venting over, now the question.
The internal baffle came loose in the tank, does the tank need replacement or could the baffle be sectioned and removed from the tank? I am not particularly fond of explosions so temporary fixes definitely aren't on my list of considerations. Has anyone actually removed their tank baffle??? At 170K, I can understand the pump needing to be replaced, but the whole fuel tank!?!?!?! As it turned out, the pump was actually still functional, the tack welds holding the sender were fractured, the rubber hose from the fuel pump was split, and the baffle was rocketing around in there like a crazed chimp. It's actually impressive that car was running at all!!!!
Thanks all and sorry about the venting. I have always had great luck with fords and other friends/family members have had NOTHING but exceptional luck with their explorers. I guess I got the Christmas car. :p:

That's not the Christmas car- that's the Friday-at-2:55pm-day-before-christmas-vacation-starts car. WOW!!!

No kidding! LOL
All cars need repairs due to normal wear/tear. I understand that and if a car dumped on me at 170K because of a faulty fuel pump, it wouldn't be out of the norm. However, despite taking meticulous care of this POS (full synthetic oil changed every 4-5K miles, tranny flushed every 10K, coolant flushes every 15K, and general maintenance beyond what is called for, this thing is still falling apart at the seams. Never buy the 1st year of a new drivetrain, lesson learned.
