factory amp question?

i am tryin to figure out if i have a factory amp or not i have a 1999 explorer it had a XF2F-19B132. AM/FM/CASS : T100 PLUG WITH CHANGER CONTROL AND CLOCK head unit in it i took the side panel on the back passenger side off there is nothing there could it be somewhere else any help will be greaty appecaited

If you have a 99 the amp is built in to the head unit - about 15 watts per channel. The only system with an amp is the Mach system which has a sub-woofer and sub-woofer amp behind the right rear inside quarter panel.

but it shouldnt really be different.

I had a factory 6-stacker CD player w/ radio and whatnot.
But I got a JVC 7" touchscreen put in a few weeks after i got the car

and the guys who installed it said they had to rewire it up to the factory amp
SO, I'm fairly certain that theres one in there. I just dont know where it is

I want to install a new amp for a sub in the next couple of weeks, so if anyone could help me find where the factory amp is, (or what it looks like with a picture would REALLY help) and if its possible to run another amp of the factory one to go to the sub.
I'd REALLY appreciate it

or if theres another thread somewhere with a writeup of how to install one and wire it up yourself.


dont want to have to pay the carsound guys $150 if i dont have to..

How do you know it is the premium system and not the Mach system? I very well could be wrong since I don't work for Ford and I don't know it all. However I've read and researched tons of Ford literature. I have a 98 sport. It has an MTX sub woofer in it that I installed. I also purchased and repaired a Mach head unit to run the sub woofer. It has a six cd changer mounted in the console with factory parts, I purchased that also. The sub woofer has a standard Mach cover that I purchased. If you did not know it was all changed out you would think it was the original Premium system that the Explorer came with from the factory. That has saved me from thieves twice. They hit every vehicle in the parking lot that had aftermarket systems. The vin shows a premium system. The Mach head unit has id tags that read Mach 4 door equalization. The premium has no such tag. Both head units have the RDS feature. I put a scope on the premium head unit sub woofer output pins and did find a full range signal. So it is possible some combination of head unit exists that does not follow the convention. An early 98 model could have the 97 JBL system installed by the factory. But a 99 would not. So if you have a 99 with just premium sound, not the mach head unit and it has a factory installed sub woofer, I stand corrected.

My understanding is that early 98's could have the jbl system from 1997. Since you are not in the USA it could be totally different then us. The following link show the M100 and T100 plugs and explains the amp difference.

If you have T100 plugs on your original radio it should not have an external amp. But I could be wrong on that. Go here

to download the service manual cd's for 97 and 98 and see what the amplifier location is. Probably wouldn't hurt to get the 96 cd also.
If you have the JVC installed, does it have a sub-woofer output RCA plug?
If so you just install the sub amp of your choice and sub box and wire them according to the instructions from the amp. Do a web search (google?) for sub-woofer installion instructions.

So, i pretty much decided to pull my ex apart this afternoon to try find this phantom factory amp. and I checked behind the panel in the cargo bay on the 'right' side.
and i found this little metal box thing mounted in there.
BUT IT HAD NO WIRES OR ANYTHING CONNECTED TO IT?!!!?!
WHY COULD IT BE?! D=


but i figured out how to pull my jvc headunit out, and found that the RCA plugs havnt got anything in them, so it should be pretty sweet to just got nuts with a new sub and amp

apparently I have to run the power wire for the amp+sub on the opposite side of the car that all the speaker wires are running.. so it doesnt cause like. white noise or something?
can someone please confirm this for me?
