DOES anyone know what the idle speed is set at when it leaves the factory I can't seem to find the answer anywhere online.
I have a 2001 explorer 4.0 v6 sohc it idle's at about 500rpm's in drive at a stop, I also have a 2003 sport trac with the same engine and it idle's at about 925rpm's in drive and at a stop.
WHAT should the idle speed be?
THANKS
SHERMAN

Found this on O'reillys website. I didn't look up 01 or 03 I just clicked on my truck cuz it's saved but i'm 99% it should be the same. I don't know about when you have it in gear. I've never payed attention but 500 sounds low.

HI JAKERS,
THANK you for the info. I even went on the FORD MOTOR CO. site and could not find anything on there.
HAVE a great day.

550-600 RPM on the SOHC v6 and a bit more (650 RPM) on the 5.0L v8. I've found if you want the v6 to idle a bit higher you can just turn the throttle body plate stop screw. I prefer my SOHC to idle at around 600+.

Note: Never try to reduce your idle by missing with the throttle body plate stop screw though, or it may stick the plate closed.

THANKS KODA,
YOU know it would help a lot if ford would put a few items like this in the owners manual.
AGAIN THANKS.
