Fan Belt life expectancy

What kind of life in miles do you guys get on a fan belt?

What is the recommended change interval?

I changed mine when it got to 100,000. I'm not sure what the factory recommended interval is though. Also, I stuck my old belt in the cargo area (panel above the drivers side wheelwell) just in case the replaced one goes unexpectedly.

I changed mine at 85,000. It didnt look to bad but it wanst as good as the new one. For the price and 15 min. of my less than valuable time; why not?

I changed mine at 82,000 because the old belt had some cracks and I just wanted to be on the safe side while I was changing the plugs and wires.

Whats the level of difficulty for changing the belt on a 99 4.0 SOHC?

It looks complicated.

My belt started squeeking at 40k so I replaced it. Ended up replacing it again a few months later when I got my supercharger though.

It took me about 5 minutes on my '97 SOHC. I did have to have my Wife hold the ratchet once I relieved the tension from the tensioner so that I could use both hands to fish the belt around all of the pulleys.
