I have an 06 Explorer with the 4.0 recently the fan will stay engaged while pulling away from a light. The amount of time it stays on varies. The Radiator and complete thermostat and recovery tank were changed at 125K the vehicle now has 142K. The temp gauge stays where it always has and the panel does not give a temp warning.
I just completed a round trip from Long Island NY to Chicago and back this weekend with no temp issues.
any info will appricated Thanks

Now my daughter who drives it mostly says that 2 mornings in a row the temp warning came on and the went off within in less than a minute guess the thermostat is starting to go and I bought the whole new setup from ford 20K and eight months ago.
Thanks

Exactly what mine did. The thermostat was in 2 pieces when I pulled it out....

In my case the fan was roaring like crazy most of the time, especially when AC was on. Got a new fan clutch assembly from Motorcraft for about 150 , and all is normal now.

My Ex does this when it is very hot and AC on. If I have a drive long enough to get to full temperature and park it for a few minutes. On the next start-up while it has heat soaked, the fan will stay on until the speed increases and the trans shifts into 3rd. At that point the fan stops. Never any over heating issues. I have had the thermostat replaced in Feb after the housing cracked but this was occurring before the change as well. I can't say I have been too concerned about it though.
