It sounds like you are a little low on transmission fluid. Has anything been done to the transmission recently, or are there any visible leaks? It could also be the torque converter, or other issues, but my first inclination is that it is transmission related.

i gotta say checking the tranny fluid on these is a pita

check the fluid and it was right where it needs to be. any way to check the converter?

low on fluid.

when you check it did it drip, stream or nothing came out?

also you did this with the truck running at operating temps right?

Truck was up and level and running for 15 minutes. it was a steady drip coming out.

looking at the other threads on this, i would think the fuild leave is fine. a steady drip is not enough?

I hated getting under the truck let alone while it is running. I would try dropping the pan or the plug and refilling with Merc V. See if that helps. Make sure you have a fitting that will fit the refill opening before dropping plug/pan... 1/8 nbt threads if I remember correctly...

Also, I think this may relate to clutch bands? There is a way to adjust them but I would take it to a transmission shop.

Also... Before you do anything -- many trans shops do a free diagnosis.... wouldn't hurt to see what they say?

Good luck.

Add a little bit, pint or quart worth.

i overfilled mine a quart... I'm ocd I guess :)

These transmissions will vent any that is actually an "overfill" out the top of the case. It will foam, make a mess, and probably look worse than it is...but it is not a big deal.
