Since this is my first post I'd like to say hi. My nick pretty well sums up my name and location. I just bought a 95 Explorer XLT four door with 104k on it. The first order of business was to replace the stock stereo (base model). I chose a Alpine HU since I had very good luck with my last one, an Alpine one channel amp for an Alpine 12" sub in a sealed enclosure. For the door speakers, I chose Infinity Kappa 5.25 components for the front and 5x7's for the rear. I have a four channel Infinity amp driving them.
Anyhow, I am in the later parts of the install. I chose to gut the interior except driver seat to install the fatmat sound deadener. I am receiving it tomorrow so i thought this would be a good time to ask. The rear door speakers mount onto the stock bracket that mounts to the doors. When I put the fatmat on, should I stick it on the door metal behind the speaker bracket? I ask this because there are some holes there that if needed, would allow the speaker more air space. Am I supposed to cover them up with fatmat behind the speaker of leave them open? Also, should I stuff some insulation inside the bracket before installing the speaker?
One more thing, anyone have any ideas of where to mount the front tweeters?
