Few questions about swapping new HU into 3rd gen

I have the audiophile sound system in my 03 mounty and love it, but i'm wanting to ditch my external XM unit, and I'd love something with an iPod hookup, or at least an Aux input.

I have a couple of questions.

1) Is it difficult to get the factory sub/amp to work with an aftermarket HU?
2) Is there anyway to make the audio functions on the steering wheel live w/ an aftermarket HU?

I will not be doing the install myself, it will be going to a local reputable audio place.

its easy to use the factory sub w/ aftermarket head unit, and you can get a module that will allow you to use the steering wheel controls. any reputable car audio shop will have it and know how to install it.
