Finally got a flowmaster!

Well, it's finally getting done. I found a guy in nearby town who does custom exhaust work on the side. I took my X over to him last night and he quoted me $282 for dual outlet and $135 for single outlet. I know $282 is an awesome price to have a dual outlet flowmaster system installed for, but I couldn't get myself to spend $150 more for an extra tail pipe for nothing but looks, so it's getting the single system. I figured that I could buy a nice stainless steel tip with the money I saved by going with the single system.

So I'm taking it over to him at at 3:30 this afternoon and he'll be done with it later tonight. I can't wait!!

Hopefully I'll get some sort of video or sound clip up if I can figure out how. Anyone want to host a video for me or point me to a site that can do it for free?

SCHWEET. Get a chip and a better intake and you will be like oMG.

Well, it's now flowmaster equipped!  :D

I absolutely love it and it is exactly the sound I wanted. Now it has a high flow universal catalytic converter (installed 2 weeks ago by myself, that was a job from hell :fire: ) into a flowmaster 40 series muffler and then a stock resonator and tailpipe exiting in the stock location. 2-1/4" piping all the way.

The sound is nice, it's there, but not deafening or even annoying. It's got a nice low rumble at idle, and has a nice low throaty roar (although not so loud that you can't hear anything else) upon hard acceleration. When you're cruising with the windows up you can barely tell it's there. Holding a low conversation with your significant other is still no problem at all :D

Yeah, that was the best $125 I ever spent :D

Oh, and I already have an intake, see my thread about it. It's about 2 threads up right now in this same forum.

I don't think I'll be getting a chip anytime soon. Next I'm saving up for 31" tires, different junkyard axles with 3.73 (3.27s SUCK!!!!!!) and fix the bubbling paint around the fuel hatch

$125 is an excellent price. I have the flowmaster system on mine with a high flow cat and yes, it sounds good.

i think i want to get this same setup, but do you think have the resonator on makes it sound any different?

The guy told me that the resonator will make it a little quieter, so I had him put it on since it came with the tail pipe. Once he had everything fitted, before he started welding, he let me start it up and see if I liked the sound. If I wanted it louder, he was going to remove the resonator. But since I liked the sound the way it was, I just had him weld it all up. I can only think of one word to describe the sound and it's: "Perfect!"

If your installer didnt do it, paint your flowmaster with hi-temp enamel. I grew up in Chicago, IL roadsalt will kill it... the body of it itself wont rust, but the welds will rust like a **** after one season. Had an old nova and I was pissed 2 years later.

dont worry about the chip, it wont help, I got a 92 and I talked to doug at bama and he says...."Unfortunatly I can't do a whole lot with the EEC4 Ranger's if anything at all. You can't adjust any of the transmission functions on these, or atleast the ones I've done. You can pick up some power from the better spark and fuel curves but only when using 93. Using 87 you could still see some gains but it may be limited. Most of the EEC4 tuning I've done has been for very performance orenited customers with aftermarket cams, ported heads, nitrous and so on.

The BIG problem on the ECC4 Explorer's and Ranger's is the lack of support for the PCM calibration codes. I have done about 20 over the last few months. Most of the codes I have or had to send the PCM's to SCT for them to download but if I have to request the code then it can take a while for SCT to request it from Ford and for them to get it in. The last calibration code request I did took two months, I've put in for another here recently and I'm still waiting.

EEC4 is like comparing Windows 3.1 to Window's 2000, yes it can be used and work well but the new operating system is much better. They can be upgraded and used, heck I've got one guy making 284rwhp and 450rwtq from a OHV 4.0 in a 93' Ranger, but it's the wait that can kill ya."

and I agree with him.. you've done what you need to do already... good job!

Yeah, he got all the welds with high temp paint. It should be good for many years.

And thats what I've heard about the chip, that they don't really do much on the EEC IV vehicles until you have some major mods :D

I think I'll go for the BBK throttle body before I do a chip. I've heard the BBK throttle bodies actually do help quite a bit.
