Fix for rust under the doors?

I just bought a 92 XLT and there is a lot of rust under the doors, but it's not rusted through yet. It appears to have been repaired once before. Is there a good way to fix this rust and keep it from reoccuring? I've seen people put the trim over it, but it eventually get's above even that.

Depends, is the rust on the inside of the door or on the dogleg or on the rocker panels. My doglegs and rocker panels are rusted out pretty bad as well and I'm just gonna cut mine out and weld new panels in. If you look around you can find goold deals on them.
