Story so far, short version. 1999 Explorer, V6 4 litre, 5sp auto. Car wouldn't change gear appeared to be in top all the time, if I moved the gear lever to 1st or 2nd it went into what I think is 2nd, put it back into D and goes into top gear, reverse works fine. Today I have fitted a new valve body with new valves and wiring, filled it up with the correct Mercon V oil and it's exactly the same. Pushing the overdrive button on/off makes no difference, light illuminates, that's all. Does anyone on here have any idea of what it may be? I have a spare gearbox but don't want to change it if it's the gearbox ecu or something similar. Getting a bit depressed about it now.
