My Ranger broke down today, and I'm not paying $75 for a tow again. So I'm planning on buying a tow bar tomorrow ($50) and using the explorer to yank it home.
I'm just wondering, how well is the explorer going to handle a 2,500lbish ranger on the freeway? Or should I avoid the freeway and take back roads?

Side note, any tow bars crappy? Any bolt straight up to a 91 Ranger?
Thanks!

if your gonna buy that for 55 ish after tax and 75 wuld get you the tow... your only saving 20 bucks... why not just tow it with rope you have lying around?.. if you do anyway.. and avoid the free way and have a buddy in the ranger braking when you do so he doesnt rear end you. i have had to do this many many times lol

i would stay on back roads. once you're up to cruising speed its better for the explorer, but much more dangerous for the person in the ranger...and subsequently the explorer.

We used a tow rope with my mom's escape to get it off the freeway and into a parking lot. But it's sketchy, and I've got 30ish miles to get home.

I figure it'll break down again, or any other "new" DD I replace it with. Gotta have something better than the number to a tow truck.

Flat towing won't require anyone in the ranger. Would make the ranger a "trailer"

Drilled 2 holes in the bumper and flat towed it home. Kinda sketchy but it worked and now I can get it to the junk yard if I aint fixing it.
