Well my first question is, if I have a stock explorer, how much of a power gain (in numbers if possible) could I expect to get if I upgraded to the Flowmaster Force II cat back kit and the KKM intake kit?

How will the sound change? will it sound like one of those rice burners? Or will it sound Nice?

Do you think that the Flowmaster is a good choice or is the Dynomax better?

Any comments and/or opinions would be much appreciated!

Thanks

KKM and Flowmaster

ChuckyD:

I have the exact same questions for my 98 Sport. I was thinking about the KKM and/or new exhaust. In addition to a chip.
Please post responses/advice guys.

And ChuckyD, please put some of the advice up here so I can read it as well.
Thanks man.
Karl

no responces yet

havent gotten any responces yet but i sure hope i get some soon, i really want to get the ball rollin, i want to know if its worth it!!

lets hear those opinions guys!

No numbers here, however thats what I run. Flowie and the KKM. Louder, and sounds like a V8 at idle, have had people ask if it was a V8. When you get awn it, it sounds great! Not like a ricer at all!

really rpenner? WOW I am now seriously thinking about getting teh flowmaster II because its the only one I have seen for 2dr and I don't have the welding skills yet to modify a 4dr one. I am alos seriously considering ording a kkm. Does the KKM suck in alot of hotair from the engine, or is there something running to it? Thanks

how much

how much of a dirrerence did u actually feel when u did ur exhaust and intake? was is a noticable increase in perfomance?

I can't give you numbers but the improvements I got were definitely noticable (SOTP). I have the KKM, Superchip and Dynomax and did the upgrades separately so I did notice an improvement with each. The Flowmaster from what I hear has a better tone but I enjoy my Dynomax. It's really up to you. Good luck!

I've already got 110,000 miles on my 1995 explorer sport, would putting on the flowmaster exhaust and the KKM intake be bad for my engine??? And if not, would I still get all those performance gains? Any help is appreciated

Slick

Can't see why allowing it to breathe better would be hard on it. There are some who say that the k&n doesn't filter as good, but, in my opinion, is only because it was not cleaned or oiled properly. I don't know anything about the KKN. Go for it. You will notice better sound, throttle response, seat of the pants acceleration, and possibly fuel economy.

I just went to a Minekee thats here that does a ton of 4x4's. They have a whole wall full of pictures of trucks going off-road. Anyways I had them put on a Flowmaster of some sort (I have NO idea what kind) and I could feel a seat of the pants from that. I felt more from the KKM. Who cares if it sucks up hot air when your sucking almost 90% more its not going to make that big of a differnce in our engines. I have opened up the stock intake by totaly removing it I think. I also removed the tube that goes from the manifold to the intake tube to reduce that heat.

I can say it was SWEET!!! when I installed the KKM. The flowmaster just added right to that.

Since we are on this subject, what other exhaust options are there for a 94 2 door sport. Not custom, but bolt on, & how loud is the flowmaster? "it sounds like a V8" I have heard some really loud v8's! I used to have a 88 Bronco II that I put a flowmaster on, it the sound inside of the truck would drown out the music, & conversation. I do not want that! My X only has 55K on it. Also what does the added HP to to the tranny? Will the increases make my 5 speed choke? Also did alot of mods to the B2 only to kill the tranny really fast from doing them.
Thanks

Jason,

I have one of the new Flowmaster Delta Flow series mufflers on my B2. It has a 4.0L in it w/ a KKM setup. The muffler is not loud at all. In fact, it is very mild. I also have the older style Flowmaster 3 chamber on my 94 Explorer 2 door. There is a lot more interior noise from the muffler in the Explorer than the B2.

I would suggest having a custom exhaust job done instead of buying a kit. You will be much happier with the fit and finish. Just make sure you shop around for a good shop first.

side affects?

Do you think a Bigger MAS would be a good idea to put on if i get the kkm intake and the flowmaster exhaust?

And speaking of stress on the engine, has anyone had any funny side affect from doing any of this stuff, noises or responce issues?

if u want to make it louder replace the stock muffler with a 2stage deltaflow and instead of a tail pipe, put a turn down. thats what i have and i set off car alarms..... mom hates it

flowmaster and kkm

I don't know the power numbers, but the kkm really opened up my 4.0 As for the flowmaster force two systems, I would recommend just buying a flowmaster muffler and have a muffler shop weld it in. It is much cheaper that way. I had a whole new pipe welded in from the cat all the way back . With the 40 series muffler and no silencer it sounds great (like a v-8) but not to loud.

ravin

I'll be posting this on the main page also, but thought this was an appropriate thread to announce my exciting news! I put on a 'RAVIN' (www.goravin.com) performance exhaust muffler yesterday(well, i mad midas order it and then weld it in with new pipes). I went with the 55 model, which from what I gather, is comparable to flowmasters' 50 series. I wanted a nice throaty sound, but not somethign that would interfere with conversation or music at highway speeds. IT SOUNDS GREAT! It was exactly what I wanted, a little weak right at first but after a couple miles it seemd to break right in. I noticed performance gains right away..I have no way of measuring, but I would say 5-10hp??? If that seems unreasonalbe to anyone, let me know, but my passengers even agreed that we had a more power. This was all find and dandy, but the second reason for going with a new exhaust system was an attempt for better gas mileage.

You may want to sit down for this..I filled up the tank, drove 75-80 mph, with the windows down(extra drag, but don't have ac right now!), for 150 miles..usually at this point my gas gage is below half, but not this time. Filled up the tank again when I got home, took 7 gallons..I would let you do the mat, but that's nearly 21.5mpg! The most I had ever gotten on the highway during the 6 weeks I've had it was a little over 18, usually around 17.5 avg, and 13-14 in city. I'm not saying that only Ravin can do this for you, but I was expecting 1 or 2 mpg increase, not 4! I'll be taking about a 300 mile trip tonight, so I'll be testing to make sure this wasn't a fluke:)

SOO, for what it's worth, I highly suggest you check out Ravin and see what they have to offer.. Mine was worth every penny. Oh, I'll be adding the KKM air induction kit next week, looking for a couple more mpg:)

I just installed a KKM in my wife's '00 XLT (3.73 and bone stock). The seat of the pants feel is that throttle response it's a little better. We're still on the first gas tank so I don't have any idea what, if any, increase in gas mileage we got from it. I know it takes about two tanks before the computer readjusts itself and the mileage condition may improve from that.

But just as a comparison between the '91 and '00, the '91 (4.10, Gibson Exhaust, and K&N filter with swiss cheese air box) has better acceleration, much more instant throttle response, but loses grounds to the '00 after that.

Borla should make an exhaust for a 94 2 door. They have them for the 2 door 95 sport... Just a suggestion. I have been very happy with my exhaust, the drone does get old on long trips though.. That's just an excuse to upgrade your sound system though =)
