My explorer sport 4.0 OHV had the transmission flushed about 30 K ago. Engine now has 120 K miles. Transmission is shifting OK.

I want to do another change of fluid. Should I have it flushed again or just drained and new filter or all of the above? I did not know if a flush job should be done at every change or only at intervals. I want to do everything to get max life out of this tranny.

As far as the filter goes,I will tell you what my shop said.He said changing the filter and dropping the pan are a waste of time as the flush,if the proper tranny cleaner is used, cleans everything out that good.

There are those who will dispute that so go ahead and drop the pan and see for yourself if there is anything in it after 30K.It will cost you a filter kit and a couple of quarts of fluid, then I would do another flush and drive it.

That way you know everything is clean and ready to go.:D
