Foam removal from rear of PIU

I believe the PIU uses an 18" wheel, the same as the Explorer Base and XLT. The mini spare, according to the site I linked, is for 18" and 20" wheels.

Peter

So here's the issue, PIU uses 18" wheel with a specific tire (which on the Goodyear website said it is designed for PIU only), and its the overall diameter of the tire different from any existing retail explorer models (at least for model year 2013, the PIU tires are smaller than any OEM retail explorer's tire).

I can surely get a donut wheel for either 18" or 20" and install it (since the bolt arrangement are pretty much the same), but there is no corresponding mini size tire that has the same overall diameter with PIU's tire. Since I'm not sure how it will be handled with one tire bigger than other three, I don't want to risk it (and it cost couple hundred bucks).

Thanks for your info though.

That’s sad. The dealer converted it into the 3rd row seats for me and the spare tire won’t fit in now. So at least I wanna have some way to have a better way to use that space.

Bolt extenders might allow the seat to be raised a few inches. I'm guessing your primary problem with a fullsize spare is that the 3rd-row seats go right across the tire well and a full-size spare can't fit through the gap? Raising them a little might provide clearance for an organizer or a full-size spare, but probably not both.

In the retail Explorer, a standard full size tire won't fit in the wheel well.

The spare tire well is different, with a smaller diameter or shallower? I thought the body was basically the same between FPIU and Explorer, with factory upfitting happening across the street from the main Chicago plant. I wonder if the FPIS also has a larger well than the Taurus.

Well, a tiny spare is better than what some vehicles provide these days, which is a cheap compressor and some tire slime.

I believe I have found the part i am looking for, although I thought this and the two side pieces next to the spare tire was all one large piece. Part #DB5Z78310B17A
