This morning I got on the net and pulled the directions out of the explorer tips section on how to fix the 4x4 electric motor problem when it doesn't engage after hitting the button on the dash. I figured I had the same problem on my 92' that many others have had. I could hear a clicking sound on the rear of the truck but it wouldn't do anything else after pressing the button. Without much trouble I was able to bring down the electric motor, take it apart, and clean it. Before I put the motor back on I connected all the wiring and reconnected my battery. After starting up the truck I pressed the 4x4 button on my dash and (boom ...a smile on my face) the 4x4 light lit up and the motor turned. So I figured it was fixed, I put everything back together tightly and drove out of my drive way to double check everything. To my disbelief I hit the button and nothing, hit again a couple of times and managed to get it on and engaged in 4. However, now it doesn't want to turn on again. It seems like this was the problem because before it wouldn't come on, even if you sat there and hit it all day. But it isn't turning on every time. Does anybody know what could be the problem? I cleaned the contacts on the engine very well. Has anybody gotten these mixed results before?
