If you're waiting for a 2001 Ford Escape, you just might have to wait a little longer. Earlier today, Ford announced that the Ford Escape would start shipping to dealers; however, a problem has been discovered with some V6 equipped Escapes that could become a severe safety issue, if it went undetected.
The Speed control and servo cable (cruise control) on V6 models manufactured from 22 October 1999 through 26 July 2000 may be cracked or missing a cap covering the servo. Ford has noticed a potential problem as the locating tab could possibly enter the servo clutch cavity and interfere with the speed control servo clutch. It has also been noted that there is a potential for water to enter those units that contain a cracked or missing servo cap locating tab. If water enters the cable, corrosion may result and could possibly interfere with the function of the speed control.
Should the problem go undetected, the vehicle's throttle may not return to idle when disengaging from cruise control. The result would be a stuck throttle which could potentially lead to a crash.
Ford has ordered that all V6 Escape models are not driven, demonstrated, or even dealer prepped until the part or parts (which are still under development) to correct the problem are shipped to dealers.
All Escapes with the faulty parts will not be released from hold until the appropriate service repair has been completed. This is the second major product launch for Ford that has gone bad. The Focus had three recalls before it even left the assembly plant.

What do we all think about this? Another example of Ford pushing something to market that isn't ready? Seems to me that this vehicle has had problem after problem getting to market. I really don't know if I would buy one...
