Fords on Fire

Anyone see the CNN story about ford trucks catching fire because of a Speed Control Deactivation Switch? Apparantly the switch, which disengages your cruise control, always has power to it. The switch may malfunction and catch brake fluid on fire. The cars and trucks with the switch might catch fire at any time...The one in the CNN story caught fire inside a garage after it was parked for a few days. Anyone know about this?

Well I got lucky on my 92 F150. It is old enough it doesnt have that bad switch in it.

My cruise control suddenly went out a week or so back. I was doing some searching on this site and did not find much helpful info on cruise control problems for a 95. I am taking it into the dealer tomorrow. However, I looked under the hood and the cruise control deactivation switch is seeping brake fluid all around it. I disconnected it and attempted to clean it. The cruise control did not come back.

I have checked all my fuses, no problems there. I am real leary about this switch right now.

I would replace the switch; leaks are not good.

Well I am at the dealer. It is the deactivation switch. It is going cost like $160 to get it done, after diagnosis fees.

Apparently a fuse was blown out as well. Funny as that was the first thing I checked and none of the other systems were affected.

I am glad I am getting this thing fixed though. If it does become a recall item, I will send my bill to Ford.
