I've added a heated steering wheel to my '16 XLT using the post by DanMc85 on the Fusions forum as a guide.

I was able to update the APIM via Forscan to enable the HSW button and it works, steering wheel heats up nicely. The other two settings mentioned by DanMc85 are IPC and FCIM. When trying to update the IPC, I get an error "Writing blocks failed - incompatible configuration". I assume this is because the HSWM has not been "master enabled" as mentioned by Dan. The HSWM does have a DTC: u2100:00 Initial Configuration Not Complete

But Forscan only shows a FCIMB and it's not available for programming. From what I could find online, the Explorer doesn't have an FCIM and it seems like the HVAC module would be the equivalent though can't confirm for sure.

Any one know where the HSWM is enabled via Forscan?

Does the IPC in the explorer have heated steering wheel options? I know in mine you can only adjust fan speed and turn off/on. I don't have the heated wheel option. I have enabled it using ForScan and all it did was add the button to the SYNC screen. I'm thinking you may be fine as is

Hmm, I don't think I've ever seen any HSW or AC controls in the IPC menus for Remote Start. It's my understanding that the IPC setting is to enable the option so that the steering wheel warms up with Remote Start; like how climate control turns on with Remote Start.

Correct the IPC setting only enables the display of the remote start option. If its like most Fords if you choose automatic it will probably be enabled by default even if it's not a selectable option, my wife's Fusion turns on defrost even though I couldn't get the option added to the IPC after installing an aftermarket remote start on her car. Have you opened the SCCM and BCM in "easy" mode and looked for HSW options? The fusion uses the FCIM as the master control for all climate control, I don't think that's true of the exploder as it uses seat modules regardless of trim level (they only went to seat modules at heated/cooled seat level which is only a couple high option versions of the fusion). Typically vehicles that don't use the FCIM for those controls use the BCM and/or HVAC module. I'd look at the easy mode configurations first as Forscan has put most of the relevant stuff in even if it's not well documented elsewhere. Your next option may be to look at the as-built databases on cyanlabs site or use as-built explorer to compare your modules to a similar ex that has heated wheel.

thanks for the info! I did not look at the SCCM but did look in BCM and did not see anything related to the HSW options. I did use the As Built from a Limited 2016 in as-built explorer but wasn't sure how to decipher the differences and didn't wanna mess something up without asking first.

I'll check out cyanlabs, had not come across that resource yet. I took it to the dealership today because the heated seats stopped working and the ESP is running out soon. I'll check the SCCM and BCM again when I get it back. Also kinda hoping they just see the DTC and decide to resolve it. :p I saved all the As-Builts for comparing in the off chance that happens.
