Changing out the lines from master to driver brake hose on my 91 explorer,does anybody know if they are standard double flared on both sides,or metric on one end? Also any way to plug master,while I change out the lines to keep Fluid from draining all out,in case I need to run to parts store? Thanks

I'm not sure in the front but the rears are bubble flared. I'd think and hope ford used the same on the front haha. At the master I'm not sure about either but you can probably look at it and see if it's 3/16 or 1/4 but as far as the flare goes don't know until you take it out. To plug the master off you can do a couple different things one if you have random fittings laying around that match the threads put it in with a small piece of line kinked or two get hose plugs. To get the right plugs goto parts store probably auto value they usually have the best fitting assortment autozone has a decent one as well ask to see the master cylinder and plugs that will fit it and match them up at the store before taking any of it apart.

The fitting at the coil bucket is a standard double flair. Fittings at the ABS are metric..
If working on a hybrid line (going from the ABS hydraulic unit to the Coil bucket) you need a hybrid line (metric flair on one end and double flair on the other).

Do avoid having to make a metric flair you can buy a metric line with metric flairs and fittings, cut one end off insert your std fitting and make a std double flair. ;)

For what its worth:
Whenever I work on brakes lines I insert a rubber Golf tee (that I shaved down) into the brake line to minimize leakage. I then fill up the brake reservoir beyond MAX since you will be bleeding out any extra fluid later. Make sure the reservoir cover is installed so that it helps lock the fluid in. Sort of like when you stick a straw in a drink and cover the end with your thumb. when you lift the straw from the fluid the fluid stays in place, when you remove your thumb it all runs out.

I did the left front line last month... took the old line to Orielly's and the manager brought me a line he said was british. I used one of the existing ends of the british line... hard to describe ===<> like that. I flared the other end so...

Coil Bucket >======<> ABS

The british flare nuts were the wrong thread, I reused the old ones.

However... geez, why do I have to learn this on the first snow week of the year... how big of a deal is a double-flare? The manager showed me how to do a single flare, and so that's what I did... I have been running like that for a month now, what exactly does a double flare do for you?
