I cannot get the front rotors off of my 97 Explorer to change them. I didn't have any trouble with my other explorer a year ago. These won't budge. Anyone have any tricks I can use to get them off? I don't have a socket big enough to take off the hub assembly, but that would fix the problem anyway.

Thanks in advance.

Since you have a 4x4 then you won't need to take the spindle nut off. They are free floating, so you just need to take the tire off and pound them off with a hammer. They are on there pretty good, I know mine were. Also, the little clips around the base of your lugnuts need to be removed (if they haven't been already). They don't serve a purpose. Good luck.

I have been pounding on them for about 20 minutes. I guess I will get a bigger hammer tomorrow. What baffles me is that my other 97 they came off without any huge effort. I will keep at it.

Thanks

What I did was place the hammer beyond the rotor, then pull back real hard so the hammerhead hits the back of the rotor. Do that about 3 times then turn the rotor 1/4th of a turn and do it again, etc.
