I have a front dif on a 96 Eddie Bauer 5.0L AWD that is grumbling and I want to find another dif. I set up gears but would rather just do a quick swap and be done with it. I have searched but I can't seem to find a compatibility chart that would tell me possible donor years/configurations. I believe I am running 3.73 gears but will need to verify. There are lots of local donors available cheap.
I'm an experienced mechanic and this thing is pissing me off. It grumbles when you start off and then vibrates at 65+. I replaced one unit bearing and when it didn't change it, moved that one to the opposite side, no difference. I pulled both CV shafts and no play in them at all. I had a AWD tcase available so I swapped that, with no luck. The drive shafts are nice and tight with no ujoint issues. While I had it apart I did a brake job. That just about leaves only the differential.
Any help would be appreciated.
