I have a 98 Explorer Sport 4.0 liter OHV. The front driver side window track came off. I found it laying on the bottom of the door when I removed the door panel. I really need to fix this because I live in a fairly high crime area and don't have the money to take to a glass shop to do the work. Hoping someone knows the procedure for getting the piece back in place. Hope to get instructions from someone that has performed this kind of of repair. Thank You!

Are you referring to the rear glass run channel towards the back of the door? Only one bolt holding it, check the bottom of the door.

Here's a pic although doesn't show the complete channel. Only goes in one way, point a flashlight up and you'll see where the top goes.

yes, if he's talking about the rear lower track, there's just one bolt (10mm) and a clip that attaches that part of the track to the upper piece. slide in the clip and the bolt passes through the metal door skin and threads into a tab on the lower track.

Yes it is the rear glass run channel. My bad. Thought is went to other side of door. I have put it back into place but I'm not sure where the bolt goes. There are 4 holes running up the side of the frame. To make matters worse, the door has been repaired and there is a 3/4 inch square cut out of the metal that appears to be where the bolt was re attached. It is located between the two bottom holes. I think it is the wrong place. What I need to know is which of the 4 holes it SHOULD be attached to. I have it installed with the bolt hole facing the bottom of the door. Is this correct? Please let me know so I can finish the job. Thanks a load.

Looked everywhere for a better pic. Roll the window down with the channel unbolted, it should line up with the hole if it's still there. ;)

Thanks for all the info. I got it installed and back together. Now I have the lock spring problem. There was no spring there, so I'll tackle that tomorrow. Also a wire came loose that attaches to the striker from the inside of door. I put it back but door still doesn't unlock from inside. All other doors lock and I can unlock driver door with the key. There is also another connector that just hangs loose. It was that way before. I'll look at it more tomorrow.

The pictured spring in the link is an add on to help a power unlocking issue. The wire connected to the latch is a door ajar switch and has no effect on locks. If you can't open the door from the inside you may have stripped gears in the handle mechanism or a linkage problem. The other loose connector may be for the lock actuator. I've had lot's of "practice" on all FOUR of my doors. After buying used with 46K five years ago, I've replaced both front latches and three actuators. Love the ST, but these failure prone door locks have been my biggest peeve of all. PITA and very overpriced parts. Post when you tear into the door again, someone's always here to help.
