Hi all,

This fall I replaced my stock suspension with a set of Monroe quick-struts and after the installation the rear of the truck is about an inch higher than the front. I'd like to level it out and was wondering if there was a way to do so with factory supplied adjustments? Or will the rear struts settle and drop some with time?

Thanks

The level of "rake" that is built into your truck's ride is why it will sit like this when the shocks are in good repair. Without a kit to modify its appearance,
the back end will be slightly higher than the front. This increases your towing capacity due to the higher degree of travel your rear suspension can obtain without "bottoming out" and damaging components.. As near as I can tell, a leveling kit would need to be applied to your front end, causing the whole vehicle to ride higher than it was manufactured to do.

To be fair I am biased against height modifications on these trucks. I don't think it's safe, and I know insurance companies love to hear what you've done to your vehicle prior to a crash.

One thing is correct in this statement...the back being slightly higher than the front will increase the rear suspension travel, although not very much with the stock components.

One thing is incorrect in this statement...the towing capacity of the vehicle is not increased simply by raising the rear higher than the front. The towing capacity is determined by the manufacturer based on the chassis and drivetrain as a whole and is the maximum amount of weight the vehicle can tow.

If you install a leveling kit to the front, then just the front is riding higher than the manufacturer specified height, not the whole vehicle, because the rear isn't being raised.
