Ok so I'll admit I'm new to working on explorers but I've worked on cars forever. So alot of what I know is being disregarded for front and rear solid axle crazyness. I was wondering is there any way to check to see if your inner/outer tie rods are going out my 97 XLT has 137K on it and has never had the beating of going off road. My other question is if I replace the outer sway bar bushing will it stop it from knocking against the frame? and if the tires are cupping on the inside on both fronts what does that signafy? I already replaced the drivers side hub and its better but still getting some mystery noise thats got me at a lack for words.

Upper ball joints are bad. You have to replace the whole upper A-arm as they are one piece assemblies. With 137k I'll garantee they are bad.

For tie-rods jack up the truck and have a friend turn the wheel back and forth while listening for a click at where it screws into the rack.

thanks for the help its greatly appreciated this is our DD and I need to keep it solid. Have a good memorial day weekend!
