If you're issued two plates.. its usually required to have them both on. I say yes. Plus I remember Alec (lives in TX) relocating his plate to his surco rack and wondering if it still met the vehicle codes.
its a common misconception here in CA, that people think they dont need a front one, but they get tickets all the time..... i never got a ticket, just have spent sooooooo many long days in traffic court, that i know about a lot of loopholes and about general vehicle code.... liek i could tell you offhand, that in CA, 22349a of the VC is speeding over 65 MPH, and 22350 is just plain speeding to fast for prima facie
If your vehicle has mounting points in the front then you need one. Some vehicles don't come from the factory with the front holes drilled for a plate and they sometimes let you get by; but if you have the holes or a mounting bracket you need to have a plate.
You can have a plate cover on your front plate, but it cannot obscure the reading of the plate.
I did have mine relocated to my roofrack on my X and that isn't exactly legal (needs to be on front bumper). However, it was clearly visible so they said it was fine. People get tickets all the time for the plate in their windshield.
i just wish they would ticket the people with vettes that have no front license plate. it is just frustrating to see them get away with it while we get penaizled for it.
as he said above,if theres no factory place to mount it they may let you go. the vette doesnt have much of a place for a front tag. And for all you know, theyd rather pay the ticket than put a plate on it
That is the way I feel about it. Most of the "Red light cameras" and "Speeding Cameras" take the picture from the front of the vehicle. A $25 License plate ticket (Non-moving violation) versus a $100 speeding ticket that is going to make my insurance go up.
Anyone know about the California laws regarding this same topic?
I've been driving in B.C my whole life so I have no idea. Here the law is the same as Texas I think. I still have my plate on the windshield though cause I have a USA thingy on my front plate holder So far no ticket
I live in Texas and i don't have mine on the front i just keep it in the storage compartment just in case they did say something cause it is a law in Texas to have one, but so far they have said anything about it.
