Hello,
I am having some rear spring work done on my truck. While it is there i wanted to have them replace the front pinion seal. The shop is saying you have to drop the pumkin to replace it. Is this true? I feel like it can be done without dropping it again but figured i’d ask here

Thanks!

It can be done while still in the truck but its best if you have a lift.

Doing it on the ground with jack stands is a PITA.

Its doable and I've done it while it's in the truck. As long as you know the torque of the pinion nut before you take it off, you can just pull the yoke, pop the seal, replace it all and you are back in business. Just re-torque the nut to the same spec so you don't mess with the crush sleeve.
