2014 Explorer Limited
Going to replace the front struts on my 2014 Explorer Limited (3.5L v6, non-turbo, FWD).

Looking at Ford's parts website(which is horribly slow and expensive) as a reference with my VIN entered, ASTL65 shows it's suitable for the right-front strut, but the other part ASTL64 shows it's left OR right.(see below) How can this be?

On RockAuto.com, they only show ASTL64 for my vehicle spec. ASTL65 is available for sale, but does not appear as a suitable option for me according to their website.

Any ideas why the part number weirdness?

Check out this site and I'm sure you will find a price difference. Struts & Components for 2014 Ford Explorer | Levittown Ford Parts

I've also seen that Left or Right on the websites where it doesn't make and sense when referenced to the item. I think it is just something that is there for certain parts.

Thx for the tip, def going to add that site when doing parts research and price comparing!

Got the parts and swapped out the old ones. ASTL65 is for the right-front strut, ASTL64 is for the left-front. I do not know why ASTL64 was variously listed as ambidextrous, but it would NOT have fit on the right side. While you could rotate the strut to line up the knuckle mount, the sway bar link would be on the wrong side to bolt on. Hope this helps someone via googling someday.

thank you for this info. I've been looking at the same exact problem on rockauto for my 2014 explorer base v6 FWD. I couldn't understand why because they have the ASTL65 and ASTL64 on the parts.ford.com website (but when I went on the rockauto webpage I had to manually put in the part number ASTL65 (but for some reason it shows no vehicle specified?) do you think it's still ok to order ? $110 cheaper on rockauto ....thank you for your help any help would be greatly appreciated
